Geopolitical Risks

On January 2, 2020 the US military conducted a fatal military drone strike in Bagdad targeting Iran’s top military general, Qasem Soleimani. In response, Iranian leaders vowed to strike US military interests in the region. On January 7, 2020 Iran launched 13 ballistic missiles targeting two Iraqi military bases housing US troops. No casualties were reported, and we believe this was the result Iran sought. Even though Iran’s missile strike may not lead to an escalation of military conflict it will be used by Washington to coordinate geopolitical and military strategy towards Iran.
